January marks the third consecutive month of job losses in Manitoba, according to a Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey released today – 5,300 jobs lost in January alone.
“The Selinger NDP’s economic mismanagement is resulting in an alarming number of job losses month after month,” said PC finance critic Cameron Friesen. “Sixteen years of tax hikes, red tape, and mismanagement are taking their toll and the end result is record breaking unemployment.”
Almost 41,000 Manitobans are unemployed and the province has lost a total of 12,500 jobs in just three months. For the first time in 20 years, this is the third consecutive month with more than 40,000 unemployed.
Under a new PC government, a 1 per cent reduction in PST, a significant reduction in red tape and a modernization of tendering processes will help businesses to create jobs.
“Manitobans are tired of the same NDP broken promises and are ready for a change for the better,” Friesen said.
